‘Too Fat To Work’ Couple Lose Enough Weight To Finally Make Love Since Wedding

A year after exchanging vows, morbidly-obese Steve Beer, 45, and his wife, Michelle, 43, whose £3,000 wedding was funded by taxpayers (read here and here) have lost 13 stone by going to an intensive weight-loss boot camp.

The newlyweds, who came under fire for being too fat to work, previously struggled in the bedroom and could not consummate their marriage until their weight loss.

Though they still have a long way to go, Steve explains: “When you’re so big your love life goes out the window. You can’t even make love. But since we’ve lost weight we’ve done it for the first time in well over a year. I felt sorry for the caravan floor!”

Sex is only one of many huge changes to the Beers’ lives since they started boot camp in January.

They are also both off medication for a string of obesity-related illnesses and are now looking for jobs.

Steve has lost 8st 1lb and weighs 23st 9lb while Michelle has shed 5st 4lbs and weighs 18st 2lb.

Steve, who could barely walk, now bounces around and rarely sits down.

“When we first came I was doing seated excercises. Now I can run up and down. Everything has changed about me now,” he says.

“I’ve come off blood pressure medication and antidepressants. I’ve even stopped medication for type 2 diabetes. I feel fantastic, we both do. If I’d stayed sitting around at home I would be dead by now. But thanks to Fat-Off-Fit-On I’ve saved my life. I cry now when I look at the wedding pictures and think thank god I can face life now. I want to stay on this process and lose 12 more stone.”

They aren’t quite shadows of their former selves, but the difference is clear.

Michelle, 43, looks like a blonde bombshell. Gone is the tired, puffy face of months earlier.

“The clothes look great,” she says. “I don’t usually wear so much make-up, so it is weird seeing myself all glammed up.”

Steve loves her transformation. He says: “She looks so glamorous. I’ve been watching her change every day, she’s got so much more confidence. For myself, being able to fit in a pair of trousers and a jacket is a big difference. But it’s not just about clothes and stuff like that. It’s about us improving our lives.”

The couple’s next target is getting back into work. Steve says: “I can understand why everyone was against us in the beginning but I want to forget about that and move on. We’ve come a long way now. We’re not sitting at home on our backsides, we’re doing something about it. I don’t want to scrounge off the Government. It’s not right. At the moment our benefits are going towards paying for this…I admit in the beginning I was lazy. I was unhappy with my life, with being big. But it was my fault I put that weight on. I was addicted to food. But I’ve had to work through that. We’re so grateful to these guys for helping us. I’m not in denial any more.”

Trainer Paul says: “They’ve been brilliant and they’ve done really well. Every day they get up and keep pushing.”
