Girl, 6, Dies After Sustaining Hot Water Burns While Trying To Shield Little Brother

A 6-year-old Russian girl, Masha Yantuganova, died while trying to prevent her younger brother from being burned by boiling water. She was reportedly playing with her 18-month-old brother, Dima, when the tragedy struck.

Dima accidentally stumbled on a cable connected to a kettle, which fell as a result. When Masha saw the boiling water headed for her brother, she ran across the room to push him out of the way, and in the process, suffered third-degree burns on 60 percent of her body.

The girl’s parents were in the garden when the incident occurred. Their mum, Tatyana, said that she heard the screams of her daughter and ran inside the house. She soaked both of them in icy water, while other family members called for help.

They were taken to a nearby hospital later where doctors covered Dima’s body in ointment. Unfortunately, they said that didn’t have ointment for Masha.
