Pregnant Woman And Unborn Baby Escape Horrific Highway Accident

A pregnant woman from North Carolina and her unborn child cheated death as she narrowly escaped after a horrific highway crash split her car in half.

According to New York Daily; Haley Smith, 20, of Lincolnton, walked away with minor cuts from the wreck Wednesday that police say may have been caused by her speeding over 100 miles per hour, the Lincoln Herald reported Friday.

The expectant mother’s Honda Accord was almost cleanly torn in two, with one part resting on the northbound side of U.S. 321 in Gaston County — about 30 miles northwest of Charlotte, N.C. — and the other spiraling across the median on the southbound side.

“That’s one of the worst wrecks that I’ve ever responded to,” responding Lincolnton firefighter Mike Shrum told local reporters.

Smith’s car flipped after she ran off the road and crossed the median, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol told the Lincoln Herald.

An SUV in the southbound lane plowed into her Honda, tearing it just behind the driver’s seat.

“Everybody says God watches out for everybody, but sometimes in wrecks like that, it’s pretty obvious some people are just lucky,” said Shrum, who had stumbled upon a positive pregnancy test that had fallen out of her car.

The driver and her unborn baby are both uninjured, Smith’s sister confirmed to police.

Smith faces several charges, including reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and having unsafe tires.
