Mum Gives Birth 2 Months Early During Trip to Underground Cave

A pregnant woman touring the Sterkfontein Caves in South Africa welcomed a baby girl after falling into labour unexpectedly. She was not due to give birth for another two months when she visited the underground caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Johannesburg.

When she suddenly began to feel contractions, tour guides rushed to her aid and she gave birth to a baby girl before paramedics could arrive, with the help of a medically-trained member of staff.

The historic site, known as the cradle of humankind, is so called because of the 12 major fossil sites located within the complex.

Peiter Rossouw from South African private medical care company ER24 told news website Eyewitness News that both baby and mother were healthy.
