See What Granddad Did to Cleft-lipped Grandson 2 Days After Birth

A two-day-old cleft-lipped baby boy born on July 14, at the Chongming Second People’s Hospital, Shanghai, China was killed by his grandfather 48 hours after his birth after a doctor supplied him with syringes and poison.

According to DailyMail, it is suspected that the child’s family frowned upon his cleft lip.

Doctors became suspicious because of the family’s exceptionally calm response to their bereavement and called the police.

It was not long after that the baby’s grandfather turned himself in.

Dr Wei, the vice president of Chongming Second People’s Hospital, said: ‘After the police were involved, we found out that the baby’s life was taken deliberately. The death was definitely not due to natural causes.’

The boy’s grandfather did not explain why he took his grandson’s life.

However, in a shocking revelation, he confessed that Dr Zhou, the deputy director of the obstetrics department, had assisted with the murder.

The man claimed that he got the potassium chloride used in the poisoning and the syringe from Dr Zhou.

The medic, who had been working the night shift, has since been detained by police – shocking the entire hospital.

Dr Wei said that he asked Dr Zhou if she had had anything to do with the murder, but she denied all accusations.

Potassium chloride is not normally a poison. It is used to treat low levels of potassium, which is important for various body functions, including the heart.

However, injecting it directly into the heart can stop it from beating.

It is believed that Dr Zhou borrowed a dose of potassium chloride for her husband’s diarrhoea but she returned the medicine to the hospital.

There’s speculation that the family had considered having an abortion when they found out about the baby’s cleft lip, but it was too late in the pregnancy.

It is also thought that the motivation for the murder was the baby’s cleft lip condition.

However, Dr Li Wei said that the condition could have been treated easily and wouldn’t have affected the baby’s life too much in the future.

The case is still under investigation.
