Bimbo Anifowose, a 40-year-old wife and mother of four has approached a customary court in Ado-Ekiti seeking to end her 19-year-old marriage on the grounds that her husband beats her a lot.

According to Vanguard, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bimbo is seeking the dissolution on grounds of battery, excessive drinking and lack of care for her and her four children by her husband. She said that despite that she was cooking for her husband and also engaged in other household chores he was always beating her without any reasons.

The mother of four alleged that her husband was spending his money on alcohol. The complainant told the court that aside the fact that she was responsible for the payment of the children school fees her husband had not shown any sign of being responsible. Bimbo said that she decided to pack out of her matrimonial home because he did not take care of the children.

In his own account, the defendant, Sunday Anifowose ,43, alleged that his wife built a house without his knowledge. Sunday said he was still paying his children’s school fees in addition to sponsoring his wife to school, he also told the court that he was always providing foodstuff for the house as well as opened a shop for his wife where she was trading.

The President of the Court, Mrs. Olayinka Akomolede, having listened to the oral evidence by both parties adjourned the case to Aug. 12 for further hearing.
