Parents of These Identical Triplets Had to Devise This to Tell Them Apart

Parents, Karen and Ian Gilbert, admit that even they have difficulty telling their identical triplets, Ffion, Madison and Paige, apart, and had to come up with an ingenious way of recognising who is who through colour-coding.

When they were babies, the couple used to paint their girls’ toes so they knew who was who.

Now that they have turned two, Karen and Ian have given each girl their own coloured trainers.

Ffion wears fuchsia, Maddison mint green and Paige purple.

Karen, 34, said: “It’s not a fashion statement, we really struggle to tell them apart. We do try and dress them the same – but we use different shoes just to make telling them apart either.”

The girls were conceived naturally from one egg against the odds of 160,000-1, according to the Multiple Births Foundation.

The trio have now become tiny television extras – performing on a TV drama series, and because they are so identical, they play the same little girl on screen and get rotated while scenes are being filmed to keep them from getting too tired.

Their parents still paint their toenails so they can tell them apart during bath time at the family home.

“They are lovely little girls who have already brought us so much joy – in triplicate. We have treble trouble -but we would not have it any other way,” their mum said.
