Dad Jailed After Underage Daughter Crashes SUV, Killing 3 Friends

A dad, Michael Ware, 54, who allowed his unlicensed 15-year-old daughter drive an SUV that crashed killing three of her friends while leaving three others injured, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

He was given a lengthy sentence partly because he initially lied to investigators.

For around two months he let his daughter take the full blame for the crash by denying he had allowed her to drive that day.

Judge Ray Hamill, who spoke for 20 minutes, said Ware had failed to convince him that he was a candidate for rehabilitation.

Not once did you say, ‘I’m sorry,'” until the sentencing,” the judge told Ware. “Not once did you say, ‘I’m responsible.'”

He branded Ware’s behaviour “reckless, stupid and selfish” before blasted him asking: “What kind of father does this?”

Police said the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich Ware had reportedly asked his daughter to bring back for him was found in the wreckage.

Ware’s daughter acknowledged responsibility in juvenile court to vehicular homicide counts and was placed on indefinite probation.

She was also ordered to do 300 hours of community service, pay restitution and write a 2,000-word essay on the impact of her crime.
