See How Woman Is Treated By Hospital For Not Paying Her Maternity Bills

A woman has been detained by a private hospital in Ikotun, Lagos State since August 12 2015 for not paying her bills after having a Caesarean Section.

Jessica Ugwuoke who eventually lost the child after losing a lot of blood during labor has been detained by the hospital for failing to pay the bill of N285,000. Speaking to sahahra reporters, Jessica stated that she and  her husband Tochukwu Ugwuoke, were not informed about the cost until after the operation had been done. She also said  she was denied a bed to sleep on and no medical attention was given to her because they could not pay the bill.

Speaking further Jessica said: “The day they discharged me from the bed, Dr. Clem asked me to tell my husband to bring his money even if he [my husband] has to steal. I have been lying down on the passageway.

It was gathered that the hospital chained Jessica to a urinal pipe to prevent her from escaping despite the pleas from her husband who promised to obtain a loan to pay the bill.

  • This is absurd and inhuman. Is it by force to operate a patient? Did she do surgery? Why charge that much? And to think she even lost the baby and yet they are treating her that bad is wickedness. Just imagine; a urinary pipe? That’s disgusting. That doctor should be arrested and given the appropriate punishment.

  • What I don’t understand is where did she do her ante natal? Was that hospital her initial hospital? Or she never attended ante natal and then bounced into the clinic to give birth? Hmmmmmmmm

  • This is pure wickedness and why treat a human being in such a manner plus the fact that she lost her child. Please that hospital should be closed down

  • Everyone is saying the hospital is wicked, have you guys forgotten that private hospitals are there to make profits? I blame the woman and her husband for going there in the first place, Isolo general hospital is very close to that vicinity and it’s fully equipped. One of the best government hospitals in Lagos. It’s really a pity she lost her child after the whole thing, i pray government helps her out on time.
