According to police reports, a 33-year-old mother threw out her newborn baby, with her umbilical cord still attached, through the window of the seventh floor of a building in the Bronx, New York. The newborn was discovered by the building caretaker’s wife and emergency services rushed to the scene at 2.37pm on Monday. The baby girl was however pronounced dead minutes later. A post mortem showed she died from blunt force trauma.

Her mum, Jennifer Berry, who initially denied being pregnant, allegedly told police she gave birth in the shower of her apartment, adding that she threw the baby with the placenta out of the window when she found out she was not breathing.

Berry was taken into custody following the incident and is expected to face murder charges.

Kenneth Bolton, 29, who was visiting relatives at the building, told the Daily News: “She was deranged like she was lost, you know when someone has a look in their eyes like they don’t know where they are? The devil was in her eyes, it was more like not human.”
