A husband in Dubai filed for divorce after finding out his wife spent about Dh150,000 ($40,000) on her wedding dress instead of using the money to pay for their wedding party.
According to Gulf news, the man who proposed to the woman shortly after they met, agreed to give the woman Dh150,000 to spend on the wedding party, preparations and invitation cards.
The bride however borrowed between Dh150,000 and Dh200,000 to pay for the wedding party, after spending the money she previously collected on her wedding dress.
The angry husband confronted his wife and she confessed that she had spent the Dh150,000 that he gave to her on her wedding dress and borrowed more money from relatives and friends to take care of the wedding expenses. He immediately filed for a divorce.
A source stated: “The wife was exposed when her lenders asked her to repay the money…the woman had to divulge the bitter truth and she asked him [her husband] to repay her debt as well.”
The man has been granted the divorce.
