Woman Who Gave Birth At 30000ft Deported After Discovery She Did It For US Citizenship
A woman who gave birth at 30000 feet on a Chinese Airline flight from Taiwna Taoyuan International Airport to Los Angeles (read here) has been deported without her baby after it was discovered she allegedly boarded the flight so she could have her baby in the US.
It is claimed the woman, a Taiwanese citizen known as Jian, wanted to give birth on US soil so she and her child would qualify for automatic citizenship.
According to China.com.cn, she allegedly refused to lie flat to give birth and kept asking “are we in America yet?”
The woman also faces paying 21000 pounds in form of compensation to the airline for failing to reveal she was 36 weeks pregnant.
The plane had to divert to Anchorage, Alaska, so she could get medical treatment and be sent to a hospital.
Taiwan’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Chen Jian-yu, said the diversion and extra costs incurred came to more than £21,000 and the company wants Jian to pay it back.
The woman has been deported to Taiwan while her baby is in the care of a friend in the US as she is to young to fly.
