Husband Demands Justice After Wife Loses Pregnancy Following Disagreement With Neighbour
A 25-year-old woman in the Surulere area of Lagos, Chiwendu Nwobodo, lost her two-month-old pregnancy after a neighbour allegedly poured hot oil on her.
According to Punch, the incident occurred after Chiwendu reportedly kicked away some balls of puff-puff belonging to her neighbour, Iya Daniel, during a disagreement. Iya Daniel allegedly demanded for 900 naira to cover the damage and loss which Chiwendu’s husband promised to pay.
The incident, however, took another twist when Chiwendu, who is an airport worker, returned from work and went to the toilet. On her way out, it is alleged that Iya Daniel followed her and poured a pail of hot groundnut oil on her. She was immediately taken to the hospital and placed on admission.
Iya Daniel, who was arrested after the incident but later released on bail, has been rearrested and detained at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, after it was learnt that Chiwendu lost her baby.
Speaking on the incident, Chiwendu’s huband, Chigoze stated:
“She developed complications and started losing blood from her private parts. We were advised to do a scan, and the result showed that she had lost the baby. We were advised to take her to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The doctors said they will have to flush her system to remove the remains of the baby. They also prescribed some drugs to her.
I am sad because it was supposed to be our first child. We have been married since May 2014 and we were happy when our family doctor confirmed that she was pregnant. But now that she has lost it. I am angry because Iya Daniel caused it.”
It was learnt that Chiwendu who has been in pains, finds it difficult to sleep and has developed complications as her left ear oozes pus.
Chigozie said : “This is murder. I want the law to take its full course in this case.”
