Two Siblings Kidnapped in Calabar

5-year-old Etido Asuquo and 4-year-old Esther, pupils of Holy Child School, Calabar in Cross River State have been kidnapped by unknown men. The men who were said to be unarmed had posed as good citizens and made as if to assist the siblings in crossing the road only to flee with them to an unknown location.

The incident which happened yesterday has thrown the widowed mother of the children, Nyeti Etim, into deep sorrow. Etido and Esther were in primary one and nursery two respectively Punch News reports. An eyewitness, Michael Solomon, narrates what happened:

“I was busy at my shop when I saw some men standing at the school gate. Later I saw the men trying to assist the children to cross the road. At first I thought they were the parents of the kids but later in the evening that the news spread that two children were missing and that was when it dawned on me that the children were whisked away by the two men.”

Etim was said to have raised the alarm in the evening when she did not see the siblings return from school.

“It was when I did not see them around 5pm that I immediately raised the alarm. The abductors have not contacted me or any member of the family for any ransom,” she said.

She further voiced a prayer that the abductors would not harm her precious children.

The Head Teacher of holy Child school, Mrs. Asari Eta, said necessary steps had been taken as the police had been contacted while investigations were ongoing.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Henry Fadairo, however, disputed Eta’s words, saying the incident was yet to be reported to the command.
