See Why This 14-Year-Old Boy Jumped from a 3-Storey Building

Abdulraman Musa, the 14-year-old boy who jumped from a window at the top floor of a three-storey building in the Ogba area of Lagos in the video which surfaced online on Friday October 31, has reportedly said he was not actually trying to commit suicide.

In the video, sympathisers who raced thinking he was dead found he had survived with several fractures in his right leg. Residents of the area reported the incident to the police, saying the boy was pushed from the window, and the case was subsequently transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, for investigation.

In a chat with Abdulraman when he came with his dad to make a statement at the DCI, he told Punch he was being severely maltreated by his step-mother and simply wanted to escape the suffering on Thursday October 29, 2015, when he was filmed jumping from the window.

Abdulraman whose dad had to carry on his back to the DCI as he could not walk at all, said:

“My stepmother locked me in a room when she went out and said I must not go out. I just wanted to run away because I have been suffering because of how she was treating me. I always reported to my dad and my dad would warn her not to treat me badly but the suffering never stopped. That is why I decided to run away from the house through the window.”

His dad, Umar Musa, said he’s separated from Abdulraman’s mum, however, he had always rebuked his wife for maltreating the boy. He added that what his son did was foolish.

Police investigators said no arrest has been made so far as they have visited the neighbourhood after seeing the video and learnt the boy was indeed not pushed from the window.
