SAD: Dad Kills Four Children, Attempts Suicide After Row With Wife

A 53-year-old man, Mallam Saleh Magaji, is said to have killed four of his children and later attempted to kill himself on Wednesday after a quarrel with his wife.

Magaji had allegedly tried to kill his wife the previous night but she escaped from the house which is located on Ahmadu Bello Street in the Kawo area of Kaduna, the state capital, reports Punch. The man reportedly locked the door of the house and used a knife to kill the four children who were between the ages of six and one; believing that his children would go to heaven.

One of his children was not in the house at the time when Magaji was on the killing spree. The boy reportedly got home on Wednesday afternoon to meet the door locked from the inside and became suspicious enough to call on the ward leader of the area.

It took the joint effort of neighbors and policemen to forcefully open the door to the residence but it was too late as the children were found already dead while their father who had a slit throat was still alive albeit in a critical condition.

Both the injured man and his dead children were conveyed to St Gerard’s General Hospital in Kakuri, Kaduna.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Zubairu, confirmed the incident and claimed that it was Magaji’s wife who had informed the police about the nasty incident.

“The wife came to report to us, and when policemen got to the house, they met the house locked. But the police called on the Mai Ungwan (village head) of the area to witness the policemen force the door open.
“When they opened the door, they saw the four dead bodies of the children. And policemen also discovered that the man wrote something on the wall of the room, alleging that his wife had tried to poison him, and since she could not succeed, he decided to kill all members of the family, including himself, so that all of them can go to heaven.”

Zubairu added that an investigation into the dicey matter was ongoing.
