Don’t You Wish Your Mum Was Cool Like Mine?

My mum and I are great buddies. She’s fun to be with, has a great sense of humour and very playful. I remember when I was much younger, we would wash the car together, splashing water on each other, running and laughing so hard. We also played hide and seek, throw and catch, moulded pieces with clay, sang in funny tunes and played dress up. Playing dress up was my favourite, especially if it included messing around with her makeup, wearing her shoes and accessories. We’d take loads of pictures, and sometimes, make videos to show my dad and grandma.

Now a teenager, my mum is just as playful and fun. She pulls off funny stunts that crack me up big time like snatching my phone just so I’ll jump and run after her to get it back.

My mum also knows ‘what’s up’ on social media, with fashion trends, music, and gossip on the blogs. And you can bet she’s also familiar with all the abbreviations; KHYF, 143, TTYL, ROTFL, 6259, FYEO, PAW, PTB, you name it! My friends are always amazed when I show them her chats. I am too sometimes.

At a party held in my house recently, it was so cool to see her step out looking fly in ripped jeans and a pair of comfortable sneakers. She seemed well prepared for the dance floor where she showed off her ‘shoki’ moves, welcoming loud cheers from my friends.

We have a habit of shopping together, and sometimes with my friends. That’s easy because hanging out with her is always loaded with fun. We always look forward to it. We would stop at the cinemas on our way home and grab some ice cream and popcorn.

The coolest thing about my mum is that I can talk to her about virtually anything from inconsequential bits like the colours I wore last week, to my anxieties, crushes, friends, social and school life, and so on.

My mum shares her life with me too. We could stay up late talking on my bed or hers, even though we did all through preparing dinner. She’s like my best friend.

Sometimes, my phone beeps and it’s her telling me she misses me, or sending heart, hugs or kiss emojis. My mum is the coolest mum ever. Who wouldn’t want to have a mum like mine?
