How Upset ‘Fairytale’ Wife Learned of Husband’s Love While Sorting Laundry

Joanna Miller, the Blunt Blonde blogger, seemed to have received a vision while doing laundry on a certain day. The mother of one shared her experience in a piece which she titled, ‘If Your Working Husband Makes You Feel Lonely Do His Laundry’.

Miller lets us into how being married to a hardworking man took its toll on her. She says she had a fairytale image of marriage in her head and got her fairytale husband, however, she adds,

“I don’t ever recall the Prince in the fairytale having rough, cracked hands and crows feet before he turns 30. I don’t recall the Prince missing dinners because he was working over time or going to bed shortly after he came home to his Palace because he was so exhausted.”

The blogger says she longed to have her husband spend more time with her and she admitted that being married to a hardworking man sometimes takes a toll on her. She also revealed that she was often unreasonable and let her ‘mouth fly’ at her husband when he returned late from work. Yet, she admits that,

“I know I’m putting him in a lose-lose situation. He literally can’t win. If he doesn’t work late, we won’t get the new furniture set that I HAVE to have. If he does work late, he comes home to a nagging wife who is desperate for his attention.”

All these came to a head one day while she was doing the laundry, all the while fuming that he was not back from work but was, as usual, working late. While folding the laundry, she took a close look at the difference in her clothes and her husband’s clothes,

“Why did my clothes look so vibrant, clean and new? His were dingy, stained and torn. I stopped folding and just stood there, thinking.”

With an “overwhelming feeling of guilt and shame,” the blogger said she felt as though she had failed as a wife.

“This man provides more than I deserve. If I tell him I want something, very seldom will he tell me no… Instead of being grateful that I have an amazing husband who takes amazing care of me and our daughter, I wait for him to come home to pick a fight. I get spoiled with the fruits of his labor and he is okay with a pair of torn boxer briefs.”

With better insight into the amazing way her husband does love her and their little daughter who calls him ‘Da-da’ she continued,

“His hands are rough. They have blisters and they’re cracked. His clothes are torn, stained and dingy. He doesn’t care, though. His heart is full when he walks into the door.”

Through her moment of dawning realisation, Joanna learned that the love her husband has for her is “the most beautiful form of love there is”— he works hard to provide his family with everything they need.

She also learned to put ‘fairytales’ where they really belong.
