A Kenyan couple, Duncan Moseti, 24, and Margaret Achieng, 20, were reportedly rushed to the hospital on Valentine’s Day after the man tried to cut off his wife’s breasts while she was asleep and chopped off his private part over suspicions she was cheating on him with his brother.

According to reports, the sugarcane vendor had confronted his wife on Friday evening.

“He said he had reliable information that I was having an affair with his brother. He told me to leave him and get married to his brother since he was more financially stable, adding that he would do something that would make us all regret in our lives,” his wife said from her hospital bed.

The mother of one added that her brother-in-law (Moseti’s brother) arrived, calmed the situation and left.

Achieng said she subsequently prepared dinner and they ate before retiring to bed. She continued,

“At around 3am, I woke up after I felt a sharp pain in my chest. On checking, I saw my husband cutting my breast using a knife. I pushed him away and screamed for help. He then threatened to kill our baby and chop off his private parts,” she said.

To save her life, she dashed out to seek help from neighbours who had come to find out out what was happening.

When she returned accompanied by the neighbours, they found Moseti lying in a pool of blood. He had already cut off his manhood and hurled it outside through the window.

Neighbours immediately called an ambulance and the couple was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

The Nurse in Charge, Gladys Wanjau, said Moseti’s genitals could not be salvaged as the cells were already dead. She, however, said that reconstructive surgery had been done to enable him to pass urine.

“His private parts cannot be re-attached back to their place since he took long to get medical attention from the time he chopped them off. He is however in a stable condition,” said Ms Wanjau.

The nurse further said Achieng was out of danger as her cut was not deep.

George Bosire, the brother to the assailant, who has been accommodating the couple in his single room-house has denied having an affair with his sister-in-law.

“The allegations are malicious and mere propaganda. It is a taboo in my culture to sleep with my brother’s wife. I only wanted to help them as family members to start life here in Thika when I invited them to come over,” he said.

The couple who have been married for two years moved into his house on February 7. He is said to have been living with a friend to accommodate them in his house.
