Bride Dragged to Court Over Wedding Aso-Ebi Debt in Ekiti

A trader identified as Dele Omotoyinbo has sued a housewife in Ekiti, Kehinde Anifowose in an Ikole Customary Court over a debt of N90,400 she incurred during her wedding.

According to Vanguard, the trader claims she supplied Aso-Ebi fabrics valued at N90,400 to the defendant during her wedding in September, 2015 but she failed to pay.

The case was first heard before the court on February 15, during which Anifowose wrote an undertaking to pay the money in installments, with an initial payment of N30,000 at the end of February. The bride was however not in court on Monday’s hearing.

Her father, Mr Joseph Anifowose, told the court that she was ill, adding that she was able to raise the sum of N21, 000 out of the N30, 000 she promised to pay for the month of February.

He appealed to the court to give the bride time to pay the money and promised to assist her to meet the payment condition.

The complainant, however, lamented that the debt owed her was having negative effect on her business.

The Court’s presiding officer, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, warned that the money must be fully paid by the end of April or the law would take its course. The case was adjourned till April 4.
