A teenage Chinese couple have been sentenced for selling their 18-day-old baby girl. The baby’s 19-year-old dad had reportedly posted an ad on a popular social network and sold the baby for £2,480 to enable him buy himself an iPhone and a motorbike.

According to reports, the couple said that the pregnancy was not planned and they couldn’t afford to support themselves and a baby.

Claiming she didn’t know selling the baby was illegal, the baby’s mum said, “I myself was adopted, and many people in my hometown send their kids to other people to raise them. I really didn’t know that it was illegal.”

The baby’s buyer who had told them he was buying the baby as a gift for his sister reported the unusual transaction to the police. The couple were subsequently arrested and charged to court.
