7-Year-Old Boy Detained For Murder Regains Freedom

Chibuike Miracle Oramalu, a seven-year-old boy who was detained by the police over alleged murder in Enugu, has been released.

According to Punch, the primary two pupil had been detained since Monday, 30th of May, after accidentally shooting a 12-year-old boy, Oluebube Boniface, with a gun that belonged to his mother’s employer, Edwin Oforma.

The young boy had reportedly fired the gun after he discovered it in Oforma’s room in the Independence Layout area of Enugu.

Chibuike’s mother, Nwakaego Oramalu, and her lawyer, Olu Omotayo, of the Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network, called the attention of the public to the boy’s continued detention.

Omotayo demanded Chibuike’s release and described the boy’s detention as “a brutal attack on the rights of the child in Nigeria” and “a very dangerous dimension to rights violations by the Nigeria Police” in a petition to the Inspector General of Police
