BUSTED! Female Beggar Caught With A Rented Set Of Twins In Lagos

A woman who rented twins and used them to beg for alms at Costain area in Lagos state has landed in hot soup.

Adiza Umoru, who hails from Niger State was arrested by the officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, for making use of innocent babies to beg for alms on the streets.

She claimed that her younger sister, Aminat, was the biological mother of the babies and that she pays her whenever she uses them to beg.

New Telegraph reports that the biological mother of the twins might have fled her residence for fear of being arrested as efforts to locate her have proved futile.

Yesterday, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile Yussuf, the Commissioner for Youth and social Development, urged the residents to stop giving alms to beggars especially those with babies, so as to discourage the begging, describing Umoru’s arrest as a follow up to the zero tolerance of alms begging.

She also stated that giving alms was a good gesture, but it should not be brought to the streets.

She said: “It is an established law in Lagos State; Section 168 of Criminal Code of Lagos State 2015 amended prohibiting street begging. We don’t want anyone going on the street and be begging.

“We have told people times without number that it is illegal to be begging on the streets of Lagos. If anyone wants to give, they should go to government resettlement centres.”

  • Yes the mother should be arrested as well. What kind of mother would allow her babies to be exposed like that. One only needs to see the way these babies are treated to know the women are not their biological mothers

  • You see that was what I complained about the last time about some beggars with kids in Lagos

  • They’re all over obalende, National stadium, Lagos state government should arrest them all and free these innocent kids from suffering.
