Mom Vows To Donate 2 Of Her Organs To Ailing Toddler Son
Sarah Lamont, 36, has decided to donate her kidney and liver to her sick toddler after waiting in line for a donor for over a year.
“In June, Joe had been on the transplant list for over a year and there was no sign of him getting a call. Meanwhile, we saw other wee kids getting kidneys from their mum or dad. It’s life changing for them . Needing dialysis three times a week, Joe just wasn’t getting a chance to do what wee boys do.”
Independent, reveals that:
Joe Lamont, 4 was born with a rare condition known as ‘Autosomal Recessive Polycystic’ kidney disease, which required him to have both kidneys removed. He was equally diagnosed with deadly liver disease which a transplant is required for his survival.
The surgery is scheduled for the 25th of January 2017. Drawing inspiration from her son’s effervescent nature, Sarah, had this to say:
“I’ll be all right, I’m a very optimistic person. If I could do it today I would, the sooner the better, I would never have doubts. Joe’s been through so much, there’s been a few times where I’ve been told he’s not going to make it and he always does. I’m lucky I can give Joe a liver and kidney. I said to him the other night ‘this is going to be your year Joe’ and he got excited and said to me, I’m getting a new liver and a new kidney.”
She has however urged others to register as donors immediately.
“If you’re on your deathbed of course you would take an organ, so if you’re prepared to take it you should of course be prepared to give.” Sarah said.
