Couple Dissolves 12 Year Old Marriage over Lack of Care for the Children and Constant Fighting… Read Details

Yesterday, 11th of January, an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court dissolved a 12-year-old marriage between a man named Julius Ajala and his wife, Kemi, on the grounds of constant fighting and ‎lack of care for the children.

According to reports from Daily Post, the court granted the petition of Ajala, 50, who accused his wife and mother of their two kids, of lack of respect, lack of care for their children and denial of sex.

Julius, who also said that Kemi was lazy, told the court that he was tired of the union and needed divorce to avoid constant quarrels with her.

In her response, 48-year-old‎ Kemi however, did not deny the allegations but said that Julius constantly beat her over flimsy reasons. She said that the petitioner usually destroyed her wares (food stuff) whenever she returned late from the market, adding that she deliberately starved Julius of sex because of his wayward lifestyle.

The President of the Court, Olayinka Akomolede, held that the marriage had broken down irretrievably, and consequently dissolved it,  granting custody of their female child who is aged 11, to Kemi and gave the custody of the nine-year- old son to Julius.

‎She then ordered Julius to pay N4,000‎ monthly to Kemi for the feeding of the female child, and that he should be responsible for the education of the children.

In addition, she ordered the wife to release the girl during holidays to her father who must return her a week before school resumption.
