Trump Administration Set to End Michelle Obama’s Girls Education Program

The Trump administration has announced its plans to discontinue a girl’s education initiative championed by former first lady of the USA, Michelle Obama, CNN reports.

The “Let Girls Learn” program, was started by the former FLOTUS and her husband, ex-President Barack Obama back in 2015 to facilitate educational opportunities for adolescent girls in developing countries. “Let Girls Learn” was an inter-governmental initiative run primarily at the Peace Corps and the United States Agency for International Development. This was aimed towards promoting girls’ education.
The Trump administration has however announced that all that will cease operation immediately. Employees have been mandated to stop using the “Let Girls Learn” name and were told that, as a program unto itself, “Let Girls Learn” was ending.
” ‘Let Girls Learn’ provided a platform to showcase Peace Corps’ strength in community development, shining a bright light on the work of our Volunteers all over the world, We are so proud of what ‘Let Girls Learn’ accomplished and we have all of you to thank for this success. Moving forward, we will not continue to use the ‘Let Girls Learn’ brand or maintain a stand-alone program,” read an email sent to Peace Corps employees this week by the agency’s acting director Sheila Crowley.
Kelly Love, a White House spokeswoman, said to newsmen that the programme had not changed. It was however not stated how the programme would be maintained or why the announcement to shut it down was made in the first place.
