‘We Can’t Raise Ransom’ – Kidnapped Orekoya Boys’ Parents Lament

Parents of the three Orekoya boys kidnapped by their newly hired nanny, Mary Akinloye, last Wednesday, (read here and here) have lamented their inability to raise the N13m ransom demanded by the kidnappers. The kidnappers reportedly refused to reduce the ransom, and insisted it must be paid or they would kill the children; Demola (6), Adedamola (4) and Aderomola, (11 months).

The nanny was said to have resumed work last Tuesday and kidnapped the three children the next day after their parents went out.

The abductors, who contacted the family, demanded N15m ransom, before reducing it to N13m after passionate pleas from the parents of the kidnapped children.

A family source, who pleaded not to be named, told Punch on Monday, “The family has been thrown into an untold trauma. As of Friday last week, my brother received a text message and the kidnappers threatened to waste the children if the N13m was not paid within 24 hours. Their mother (Adebisi Orekoya) is a shadow of her old self. She is devastated. She loves all her children no doubt, but she is concerned more about 11-months-old Aderomola. She never ceases to call out to him everyday, wondering what type of food he was being fed with. During one of the conversations, she was allowed to speak with the children who claimed they were being taken care of. But the issue now is how to raise the requested amount.”

On his part, father of the abducted children, Leke, said the family was still struggling to raise the money.

He said, “We are still trying to raise the money. They have not shifted ground. The amount is still what they demanded (N13 m). My wife is devastated at the moment and we are praying and hoping that we would be able to reunite with our children soon.”

When contacted, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, said investigation into the abduction was still ongoing, adding that efforts were on to rescue the children as early as possible.

Meanwhile, in a heartbreaking chat with TVC, the boys’ mum, Adebisi Orekoya, wept and pleaded for her boys’ return. Watch below:

  • Dear Lord, hear the cry of this heartbroken mum and bring her children safety to her and family.

  • Very sad I hope the kids come home safe and they catch these useless criminals

  • Somehow i dont pity this woman. I only feel sad for the innocent kids that were kidnapped. How on earth can a mother leave her children wit a total stranger whom she just employed. I still cant believe it. Its a big lesson for all of us especially for those who totally trust all these nannys and househelps. I pray God have mercy and take absolute control for the sake of these precious kids

  • Merciful father, plz forgive us our sins nd listen to our cry of release for these children where ever their abductors may have taken them to.
We pray u put confusion amongst their abductors so dt they wuld hv no oda option than to release these innocent kids.
These i ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.

  • @Chioma, d way some of you talk is terrible, i work and see what woman go thru with babies maybe if d nanny or the place they keep their baby has a problem. They are some jobs you dont try taking ur child. How can you say u dnt pity her bcos u re not in dat situation? Haba! Dis can happen to anyone, even the people you think you know. Is it not in dis forum a step brother kidnapped his own half brother demandin a ransom to buy a car. A simple prayer is enough pls. In gombe a bike man dat was paid by a family for 4yrs d family knew him his wife and kids but oneday bcos of five million he took dat woman’s 3kids and gave to ritualist till today dat woman lost d kids. May God show her mercy, and may we not experience this kind of thing.

  • What happened 2 mobile phone tracking system? They’ve been exchanging calls n messages n up till 2day the kidnappers location has not been tracked.I jst wonder wat exactly d police is doing

  • At patricia, i know it can happen to anyone and i wont even wish it for my enemy if i have one. I feel the pains the woman is going thru , am a mother who loves her kids like mad. So i know her plight. And i thank God u gave example with a bike man. It is such stories that should open up our eyes and make us not to leave our kids all alone wit a total stranger. A nanny she has not establish any relationship wit. Take it or leave it , it is very risky. Strange things are happening and nobody should be trusted. As for saying a word of prayer, if at all u read my post u would hv seen i offered one.

  • I really feel for this family, I pray God answer their prayers. So so sad*crying *

  • I feel like crying right now.God please have mercy on this family and bring back their kids to them alive

  • @Eka, u are very correct, since the parents exchanged calls with the abductors, they should go for a legal backing telling the GSM provider to release necessarry information concerning the abductors. The parents should not live everything to the police, this is the the time to fight and not cry though it is not easy. Someone called my aunt threatening her life with a private number. It was the same things I mentioned above that he did and it yielded great result. Even the police were surprised at my aunt’s intelligent steps.

  • I dnt even knw wat to say…I feel for dis woman. God pls intervene in dis case and set those kids free.

  • God will surely punish d nanny for dis evil act,I pray they will come bk safely
