Student Whose Fake Bomb ‘PromProposal’ Went Wrong Cries Racism

A Washington teen, Ahmad who strapped fake explosives around his body in a stunt to ask a date to the prom has been suspended from school.

According to Mail Online

He says he was trying to go all out with his prom proposal and questions whether the decision to suspend him was based on his ethnicity.

‘It was really unfair, and it kind of felt racist,’ Ahmad said.

The 18-year-old senior wore a vest filled with paper-tube props made to look like explosives. At lunchtime, he stood on the cafeteria stage and held a sign inviting his would-be date to the prom.

‘I kno it’s A little Late, But I’m kinda…THE BOMB! Rilea, Will U Be My Date To Prom?’ the sign read.

The five-day suspension for Ibrahim Ahmad will prevent him from attending La Center High’s dance Saturday.

School Superintendent Mark Mansell says Ahmad’s actions were inexcusable and that he deserved punishment for disrupting the learning environment.

‘To me, it’s just blatant disrespect,’ Mansell told The Columbian. ‘The student knew that the principal wouldn’t support this and he went ahead and did it anyway.’

The teen says the prank was all in good fun and simply part of a trend in flashy prom proposals.

‘I’m Middle Eastern, and I thought the bomb was kind of funny and clever,’ he said. ‘I wasn’t wearing the vest for more than, like, 20 seconds.
‘It’s kind of a trending thing now, too, where everyone just asks in a really creative way.’

Besides, she said ‘yes.’ But now that creativity has ruined Ibrahim’s prom and that of his date, Rilea Wolfe.

‘If anyone else did that, I feel like no one else would have gotten in trouble for it,’ Ahmad said.

Do you think this was about racism? Do you share his sentiments?

  • Mixed feelings. I guess the school reacted because of world situation now with bombs here and there but at least since it’s his senior year, they would have at least allow him attend the dance and prom because high school kids here looks forward to it a lot. I hope he gets pardon so he can attend the prom at least

  • In all the pranks in the world, he chose to use bomb as a prank, REALLY!!! This is an expensive joke and should attract double punishment. They just marked the anniversary of Boston marathon bombings, and i saw two beautiful women hat lost both legs in the incident. Bombs ain’t for joke dude, suck it up and face your punishment. You’re lucky you are not from this part of the planet cos you would have received serious flogging from the principal before being expelled. Some kids of your age lost their parents in the Boston incident and am sure if you’re one of them you won’t be pulling this crazy stunt.

  • It’s not about racism atleast not with what is happening in the world today. It’s funny to me tho.

  • It’s not about racism…it’s an expensive joke and should attract double punishment

  • I don’t think so. Its about the school policy; if he is allowed to go un punish just like he has said it will become a norm in the school and so it might become a nightmare

  • He went too far.Nobody jokes with bomb like that. But they should have allowed him to go to the prom. It’s a big deal for them

  • I feel for d young dude, its an expensive joke bt was done with good intentions. As for racism…hmm. maybe if it was an american, he would have been punished bt maybe not as bad as d guy involved.
