SAD: 12-Year-Old Girl Hangs Self 4 Years After Losing Mum to Breast Cancer

An inquest has heard how a 12-year-old schoolgirl from Norwich, Isabel Ann Richardson, who struggled to come to terms with her mother’s death from breast cancer 4 years ago, killed herself.

According to Mirror UK, she had spoken to a school nurse about her sorrow and was referred to bereavement charity Nelson’s Journey following the death of her mum Karina who passed away four years ago.

The primary school pupil – who was scheduled to meet a grief counsellor – struggled to come to terms with her sadness and was found hanging in her bedroom.

Coroner Jacqueline Lake said Isabel, who was described by teachers as a “happy, funny girl,” expressed on social media “feelings of worthlessness and loss”.

Her father Stephen had become aware of her tendency to self-harm after a parent contacted the school when Isabel posted concerning photographs on social media.

On the evening of the incident on May 12, Mr Richardson told Norfolk Coroner’s Court that Isabel’s brother had called him to alert him that she’d once again put distressing photos on instagram.

When he went to check on her he discovered her hanging in her bedroom and was rushed to hospital but died six days later on May 18.

Coroner Ms Lake recorded a narrative verdict.

The Eastern Daily Press reported that Ms Lake said it was not clear Isabel intended to take her life adding: “Although she hanged herself, this could have been a cry for help.”

Isabel’s father told the court: “She said she was okay … And told me she has stopped cutting herself. She seemed a lot better since the meetings at the school. I was aware of her self harm, but I never thought for a second she would do anything like take her own life. I will always think I could have done more.”

So sad.
