Chris Rock’s Estranged Wife Denies 7-Year-Old Girl They Took At 6 Months Wasn’t Legally Adopted, Says Adoption is Still in Process

Following reports revealing the 7-year-old South African girl who has been living as estranged couple, Chris and Malaak Compton-Rock’s daughter was never legally adopted, the comedian’s wife has said she is still in the process of adopting the girl who started living with them at only 6 months old.

Sources tell TMZ that Rock is suspicious of what Malaak did to bring Ntombi to the U.S. Other reports say he hasn’t seen Ntombi since the break-up, despite making time to see biological daughters Lola, 12, and Zahra, 10.

His wife has however issued a statement through her lawyer saying Ntombi is loved and that the adoption process is ongoing.

Her lawyer told PEOPLE, ‘While the adoption by Malaak is not yet finalized, it is actively in process under the rigorous guidelines and safeguards of international adoption policy. Although Chris Rock is a celebrity, Malaak and the children are not. Protecting the privacy of her family remains of utmost importance to Malaak.’

The girl called Ntombi has reportedly been in the US on a visitor visa that requires her to return to South Africa yearly for a renewal. How Ntombi was placed in the care of the Rocks is not crystal clear yet, however, her biological father, Crispen Khanyile, told TMZ he and his now ex-girlfriend, Precious Ndebele, were unemployed and already taking care of two children when they had Ntombi seven years ago.

Khanyile would not talk further about why his daughter ended up living with the Rocks – or if any money exchanged hands – telling the gossip site to get their answers from Compton-Rock. Compton-Rock has reportedly brought the girl back to South Africa each year to visit with her biological parents and siblings, a brother and a sister.
