PHOTOS: Kenyan Couple Wed on Hospital Bed After Horrible Accident Few Days to Wedding

A Kenyan couple identified as James Mwangi and Miriam Gakenia, over the weekend exchanged marital vows at a hospital following a nearly fatal motor accident only four days to their wedding. They had reportedly gone to buy wedding items. While Miriam sustained a right hip joint injury and a broken right arm leaving her bedridden, her groom-to-be survived the ghastly accident with only his right hand injured, and was soon discharged.

She tried to convince James to postpone the wedding but he insisted the ceremony must hold despite her condition, so, the couple got married at the hospital on Saturday.

“The wedding had to go on. We had prepared for six months. The devil was not going to get in the way. She would have become my wife even if she had lost her legs,” Mwangi told the Star.

The bride had nurses as her bridesmaids and was escorted in her bed to her groom by the matron of the hospital. They however had difficulties signing their marriage certificate, exchanging wedding bands and feeding each other their wedding cake as their hands were in casts.

The Reverend who conducted their wedding said: “I have never conducted such a wedding. It shows [how] far love can go. It is a lesson in sticking with your vision regardless of hurdles, and eventually reaching your destination.”

Mariam is expected to remain on admission for 6 weeks.
