Halliburton Scandal: US Clears Aisha Buhari Off The Bribery Scandal Allegations

The US has responded to the allegations that the President’s wife, Mrs Aisha Buhari was involved in the Halliburton bribery scandal and that she transferred some huge amount of money to convicted American politician, Williams Jefferson.

Yesterday, 12th of July, 2016 the acting Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General, Lagos, Frank Sellin, said in an email sent to Punch that the United States government says it has no information on the alleged crimes committed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha.

The mail was sent following the allegations that the President’s wife was wanted in the US and was avoiding travelling to the country to prevent her arrest.

In a message, Sellin said: “Thank you for the inquiry. We have no information to provide on this matter.”

Recall that last month, the governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose, had alleged that Mrs Buhari was involved in the $185m Halliburton scandal.

Fayose had said: “Even the President cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted in the Halliburton scandal. When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson.
“Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialise the judgment for people to see and read.”

The governor repeated the claim in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi where he said Aisha refused to travel with the President to the US because of her involvement in the scandal.
