Dear MIM: Should I Hide Our Wedding Certificate So Hubby Would Be Denied Visa?

My hubby and I dated for 6 years before we got married in December, 2005.

We are both graduates but he didn’t allow me work. We truly loved and cared for each other but his own part of the love changed when I didn’t get pregnant two months after our wedding.

We went for medical check up. They found nothing wrong. They told us to wait for God’s time but hubby would have none of that. His character changed completely. He became but verbally and physically abusive, beating and calling me names.

The beating stopped when our families got involved but our Love became OFF and ON. Hubby had been  preparing his papers to migrate. I started praying to God to grant my request before he leaves. To God be the Glory,I  am four weeks pregnant now.

Hubby apologized for all the horrible things he did to me and promised to be a better husband. He also promised that as soon as he is granted his visa, he will relocate me to my state, so I can be close to my people. He promised to rent an apartment for me, open a business for me, leave our car for me to use and that I will join him when he settles down abroad. All these were acceptable to me and I kept praying for him.

Last week, he returned from work and asked me if I would like to stay with my parents when he migrates. I told him No, that I was happy with our original plan. He snapped and started called me a greed, that the best would be for me to live with my parents in the village and would still open a business for me. Now, he wants to sell off the car, sell off some properties and take the remaining to his village.

He already has money set aside for the trip without having to sell these things. He tells me that I need to be close to my mum because I am pregnant and to prevent me from cheating on him. He would be going for the visa interview soon and would be needing our wedding certificate. Should I hide it so he would be denied the visa?

  • That man is planning to leave you oh chai. Besides what’s the guarantee he will even get the visa? I will advice you not to hide the wedding certificate so he doesn’t beat you to a coma abeg. But stand your ground and do not allow him sell off those things he intends to sell and leave them for you especially the car and make sure he sticks to the original plan.

  • If you have been praying, my view is to keep at it and be still so that you know that HE is GOD who has answered your first request and he will do it again

  • The man has already left ur life so whether he stays here or leaves, u can’t force a man to love u even with 20 children. Pls give him the certificate and pray to God for safe delivery, after which you can settle down and plan ur life. It is well

  • You already know the answer to your questions. You are OYO. Give him the Certificate to go for good. As for the properties, with this type of man, I’m not sure you can prevent him from selling those things. But ensure he sets you up financially and makes you comfortable before he travels

  • I don’t think he wants to leave you. He does not want to leave you in a house alone where he thinks you can cheat on him. Your husband did not behave well. Just two months without getting pregnant and he abuses you. Very bad. It is always proposed that one spends sometime to prepare financially before giving birth and besides it was too early to be maltreated. I feel he lovew you conditionally or is not matured but he is still your husband. Just let him be o. Don’t try to hide it because when he finds out he will beat you to coma or not forgive you. Just handle it with prayer and wisdom. Let God take over and pls he is not worth all your dilemma

  • Don’t hide the certificate. Please talk to him about your fears. Your marriage is plagued by lack of communication. Please support him with prayers. He must give you money to set up a business before leaving. Prepare to wait a long time before joining him. Get something doing soon.

  • Who needs a marriage cert for a visa when the other spouse is in naija? ? ? Just make a photocopy. I dont understand what your husby is upto.

  • Give him the certificate, let him do his wish, don’t be afraid it is never the end of the road. His plan might not be to leave you

  • Handle the case prayerful. God answered your first prayer, He is still alive. Hold on to Him.
