BREAKING NEWS: Bomb Explosion Rocks University of Maiduguri Mosque | Professor & 5 students Feared Dead

A bomb explosion occurred at the University of Maiduguri mosque in Borno state. The tragic incident occurred this morning, Monday, January 16, while students and staff of the university were observing prayers at 5:15 am.

According to Sahara Reporters, many people are feared dead. There is suspicion that this heinous act was carried out by Boko Haram terrorists.

Also, according to an eyewitness Baba Gani-Ali, Professor Mani, a Professor of Veterinary Medicine was among the five people killed during the early morning explosion, while 20 have been injured. This is the first time that the University was attacked. All exams slated for today have been CANCELLED!

A source within the university said the first blast occurred at a mosque within the staff quarters at the time Muslim worshipers were busy concluding the early morning prayer.

The second attack was said to have happened near the university’s 5th gate usually used by pedestrians.

The National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA also confirmed the bomb attack and said rescue operations are ongoing.

In his statement, the spokesperson of NEMA, Sani Datti, also spoke on the blasts.

“One of the suicide bombers detonated his explosion at a Mosque near Gate 1 when people were observing their early morning prayer, the second one occurred around Gate 5 of the University.

“Rescue and security officials were at scene and seventeen injured victims were evacuated to hospital. Two persons and two suicide bombers confirmed dead (total of four) at the time of response,” Mr. Datti said
