Dear MIMsters: How I Discovered a Change in My AA Genotype

This is my first time posting on this forum and I’m posting in response to the Mimster who posted earlier about her and her boyfriend who were discovered to have AS genotype after she got pregnant. This is just an encouragement from someone going through a similar ordeal but with mine I am married already so there’s no going back.  My husband and I were actually shocked because before we got married we went in for electrophoresis test back home and we both tested to be AA genotype. But we are both in the US now I’m currently 4 months pregnant.

During my prenatal tests, it was found that my genotypes is AS. I couldn’t believe the results and I asked them to redo the test and the result came out same. With all the shock and confusion, I asked my husband to go take the test again and my dear Mimsters, he’s AS too.

The pain was too much for me. I cried my eyes out holding both results in my hands ( the old test results and the new ones). But I later went down on my knees and prayed hard to God because I know He has a reason why all of this happened and I know all our kids will be healthy in Jesus’ mighty name. Our faith is in God alone and He’ll surely see us through. This is just as a pointer. When both parties are AS, there’s a 25% chance of giving birth to AA, a 50% chance of giving birth to AS and 25% chance of giving birth to SS.
