How Divorced Couple, Nas and Kelis Finally Settled Custody Dispute

Musicians and former couple Nas and ex wife Kelis have reportedly resolved their custody dispute over 8-year-old son and how much time each parent will receive.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the divorced couple have agreed on a custody schedule that will allow Nas to spend more time with their son, Knight Jones.

The Illmatic rapper has secured “four full weekends over January, February and March.” Nas’ visitation will start after school on Fridays and will conclude Sunday night, or Monday night if it is a three-day weekend.

He also agreed to give the child all his prescribed medications, and even provide a well-balanced diet — something Kelis, who real name is Kelis Rogers, was very specific about.

It was also learnt that the agreement requires the parents to avoid popularizing Knight on social media.

The news comes just weeks after Nas accused his ex-wife of acting “hostile” in their custody dispute. The 44-year-old rapper claimed he was denied regular visitation with his son and was only allowed to see him when it was convenient to Kelis.

Nas initially asked the court to grant him custody on the first, third, and fifth weekend of every month, with the exception of Mother’s Day, which would be spent with Kelis.

The couple tied the knot in 2005 and officially divorced in 2010.

A few years after their split, Nas spoke to Tim Westwood about the failed relationship and the reported large amount of spousal support Kelis was receiving.

”Money was never a thing,” he explained.

“Money is money—it’s material. Love is real. Money isn’t. At the end of the day, that didn’t matter. It wasn’t like she came at me like that.

The way it came out in public was like that. It just went wrong in a lot of areas. I still will marry again. If I get hit by that love, I’ll still do it again. It’s just life. You live and learn and you grow. … Shout out to Kelis.

She’s an amazing woman and that’s the mother of my child and she’s great and everything is good.”
