Food Blogger, Vida Rica Narrates How A Stranger Tried To Rape Her In Her Car

Over the weekend, a food blogger and published writer, Vida Rica took to Twitter to narrate her horrific experience with a stranger who jumped into her car in an attempt to rape her.

The woman, with the handle @MONROWE said she was in her car when a random man jumped in and tried to force his hands up her dress and between her legs. She added that she struggled as he tried to force himself on top of her and she finally succeeded in freeing herself from him.

Vida Rica said the police didn’t show up for over two hours and by the time they arrived, her attacker was long gone.

Rica is sharing her experience to warn women about this new tactic employed by rapists. She pleaded on women to keep their car doors locked if they are alone in their car.

”Being a woman is scary. Last night, a random man jumped into my car, tried to force his hand up my dress between my legs and tried to force himself on top of me. I had to fight him off, scream and punch him until he got off me.

Iā€™m extremely fortunate that Iā€™m strong and that after a while he realised that I wouldnā€™t stop fighting. I was completely hysterical last night and cried for hours. Ladies, please keep your car doors locked if you are by yourself.

The police didnā€™t turn up for two hours and if they had, they could have caught him. I just hope something can be done because of the brazen nature in which he did it indicates to me that he has and will do it again.

Iā€™m a very private person and tweeting about Sat night has been extremely difficult. I chose to because I wanted to raise awareness to other women about the importance of locking their car doors & being vigilant. My heart is heavy right now.

The way in which rape and sexual assault are not taken seriously by Nigeria and other West African countries is truly frightening. Completely heartbreaking.

Crying all over again. Honestly, this whole situation has dug to the deepest core of my depression. I am hurting. The fact that someone who was with me has had to come to corroborate what happened because someone was ā€œscepticalā€.”

Truly, being a woman ainā€™t easy, from harassments on the street, market, school, workplace to being criticised for being a victim and speaking up.

Kudos to all the women who are speaking up about their abuse experiences.
