What Would You Say About Boss Mustapha’s Post Advocating New Law For Men To Be Rightful Owners Of Their Wives’ Property After Divorce?

Nigerians are reacting to the twitter thread of Chairman of Nigerian Youth League (NYL) Kano State chapter, Mustapha Zaharaddeen, suggesting there should be a new law giving men right to whatever property belonging to their wives after divorce.

According to Mustapha, he does not understand why a woman should have to leave with the property belonging to her and her hubby after a divorce.

“I will never understand why a wife has to pack the house belongings after a divorce. There should be a new law allowing men to be the rightful owners of whatever property the wife came with from her house so she won’t get to pack it after a divorce,”

he said on Twitter.

Reacting to Mustapha’s post, a fellow Muslim, Sadiq tweeted:

”This is like saying that a wife has no right or privileges after divorce. In Islam, what is hers is hers. So there is nothing wrong with her taking what is hers and also what she bought.”

Another, Sarki commented:

”@__yellows suggested that there should be a law preventing wives from packing their loads after a divorce. But I think the fair thing would be the wives to become rightful owners of the house after a divorce. It will help reduce the rate of divorce in the north.”
